This year National Dog Day falls on the same day as Bank Holiday Monday, which is a fantastic opportunity to really enjoy making a fuss of all of our beloved furry friends!
I couldn’t let this national day pass by without celebrating our beautiful family dog, Rosa. Let’s take the opportunity to recognise the number of ways our pups enrich our lives and show our thanks to them for all of their unconditional love. Share photos of your fluffy friends on social media, buy that new adorable doggy dickie bow or take them out on their favourite walk – which, let’s face it, is any walk!
For me, this national day is an opportunity to share the unique charm, gentle nature, and shaggy beauty of Rosa, our lovely Old English Sheepdog.
The Gentle Giant
Rosa embodies the quintessential traits of the Old English Sheepdog breed: gentle, intelligent, and with a personality that’s as expansive as her fur. She is the perfect family dog as she is loving and gentle and forces us out of the house into the fresh air even when it’s less than ideal conditions.
Rosa isn’t our first Old English Sheepdog, we love this breed in particular. And we highly recommend OES for families who enjoy being active but are also at home a lot as they don’t like to be alone for long periods.
Did You Know…
The Old English Sheepdog originates from England, where it was primarily used as a herding dog, particularly for sheep and cattle. The breed’s exact origins aren’t 100% certain, but it is believed to have been developed in the early 19th century from early types of herding dogs.
Beyond their herding roots, Old English Sheepdogs have proven to be versatile animals in various roles, including working as service dogs, participating in dog sports such as obedience, agility, and herding trials, and even acting in movies and television shows. Their intelligence and trainability, along with their friendly disposition, make them suitable for a wide range of activities beyond the traditional herding duties.
Which is probably why Rosa was such a star when she took part in our photoshoot for the new website shots last year!
Tell me about your beloved dogs and how you’ll celebrate National Dog Day.
Best wishes,
Sara
